IACME Accreditation Information

The IACME offers accreditation for offices of all sizes.  This accreditation process provides coroner and medical examiner offices the opportunity to self-access and, subsequently, have auditors to review applicable standards.  Auditors are trained by the association and offer detailed feedback during the audit.  The accreditation process allows coroner and medical examiner officers to ensure they are conducting business practices and procedures in compliance with established standards.

Please review the most updated information on the accreditation process, which can be found here.

If your office is interested in becoming accredited or if you have questions about how to begin the process, please contact the IACME Secretary:

Accreditation Requirements

Once an office commits to this level of professionalism there are several steps that must be followed to complete accreditation.  The current fee structure applies to the accreditation process as well as re-accreditation.

Accreditation Application Fees:

Office Size                                           Fees

Population <100,000                       Class I - $2000

Population 100,000-500,000         Class II - $3000

Population >500,001                       Class III - $4000

Additional Costs:

There is a required onsite visit by two auditors.  All transportation, meal per diem, lodging, associated incidentals, and all accessibility needs are the responsibility of the agency to be audited.  IACME will make all travel arrangements in an economical, practical, and appropriate manner, which will include refundable airline tickets, and will invoice the agency.

Standards:

As part of recently adopted standards, we offer an electronic self-assessment checklist to IACME members.  If you would like to review the standards and/or take the self-assessment, please visit this site.  You can use your member log-in or create a new account to view the electronic self-assessment.  The standards can also be accessed in PDF format here.

Accreditation Awards:

Upon completion of the review of all documents and onsite inspection, the jurisdiction will be advised, in writing, of their pass/fail status.

Annual certification will be granted by the IACME Board Approval at one of the two meetings, either the general membership meeting typically held in July or the mid-year board meeting in February.

Maintenance of Records:

Accreditation is granted for five (5) years.  Agencies must maintain the records of accreditation for the full length of the accreditation.

Annual accreditation maintenance fees will be effective the four (4) years following the successful accreditation.  Re-accreditation fees will be charged on the fifth (5th) year.

Failure to pay the maintenance fee will result in suspension of accreditation until fees are current.
